Sunday School Lesson for the week of October 9th, 2022

Last week we talked about Esther and how her prayers and bravery enabled her to speak up for her people who were living in a strange land where a king ruled. He had been persuaded to make a rule that would hurt Esther’s people, but she was able to uncover the wicked plot and tell the king about it. He changed the rule and everyone was safe from harm.

Today we are going to talk about another brave, humble, and loyal woman from the Bible. In the story of Ruth,* we learn how this woman left her own country to care for Naomi, her mother-in-law and traveled to Bethlehem of Judea where Naomi had lived before. They were left alone after their husbands had both died and they were now poor. Ruth refused to leave Naomi and prayed to our One True God, just like Naomi. Ruth was brave to leave her homeland and go to a strange town and because of her faith, kindness, and loyalty there is a happy ending. The fields where she gathered food for Naomi and herself were owned by a man called Boaz. Ruth later married Boaz. Their son Obed is David’s grandfather! The same David that Abigail went to meet with food for he and his soldiers.

God loves goodness no matter our gender, race, color, or nationality. You too can trust God with everything in your life for He is always with you. He is with everyone all the time!

Have a happy week!

*Ruth means “compassionate friend” in Hebrew.
